While this practice sounds incredible on paper it is a feat that is not only challenging but another thing to put on our long \u201cto do\u201d list\u2026 Until now\u2026. Many schools are now 1:1 which offers students and teachers the ability to access endless apps, websites, and programs that can assist with these best practice measures. With the assistance of my tech team, I am putting my students\u2019 declaration of their own understanding of the homework, content, and labs into their own hands.\u00a0At the end of the period, each student will\u00a0fill out a Google form (It takes less than 30 seconds). This Google form will have 1 simple question:<\/h5><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Rate\u00a0your\u00a0understanding of today\u2019s\u00a0lesson\u00a0from\u00a01-4<\/span><\/h5><\/li><\/ol><h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">(1:\u00a0I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0understand\u00a0today\u2019s content yet.\u00a02:\u00a0With\u00a0assistance,\u00a0I\u00a0understand\u00a0today\u2019s content. 3:\u00a0I\u00a0understand\u00a0today\u2019s content. 4: I understand today\u2019s content so well that I can teach it to others.)<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">It\u2019s that\u00a0simple- Every day the students\u00a0simply \u201csubmit it and forget it.\u201d<\/span><\/h5><h5>\u00a0<\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Here is where the magic happens for the teacher!<\/b><\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Let\u2019s say that the unit is two weeks long. For two weeks these students have been rating their understanding of the content on their end.\u00a0I,\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0educator, have set up the backside of this system to take the students&#8217; ratings and put them in graph form. I can choose to see\u00a0this data in an individual, class, or grade setting which will allow me to assess how well the content was truly understood. I can also see which students are struggling as well as which are excelling on a day-to-day basis. From here I can set up partnerships, groups, and activities based on the students\u2019 level of understanding. I can also change my direction of lessons based on this information on an individual, class, or grade basis!<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Here is where the magic happens for the\u00a0students (and parents)!<\/b><\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Before they\u00a0take their test,\u00a0the students will\u00a0be able to\u00a0access the backside of their individual ratings over the course of this unit. As part of their study guide, students will copy their online chart onto their study guide and answer pre-test questions that will require them to analyze their unit chart.\u00a0The\u00a0students\u00a0will\u00a0be prompted to examine which\u00a0content they truly understand as well as what parts of the content they will need to study before the assessment. These questions will not only force the students to look back at their chart, but it will allow them to take all the information that they have been compiling and use it to create good study habits.
