Powering Up for the New School Year: 4 EdTech Strategies for Nebraska

1. Clean Up Your Digital Toolbelt (Less is More) 

It’s easy to get excited about every shiny new app, but tool fatigue affects both teachers and students. Before school starts: 

• Focus on workflow: Pick 2–3 core platforms (like your LMS, interactive whiteboard tool, and a primary engagement app) that students will use consistently. 
• Streamline routines: Establish clear expectations for saving files, submitting work, and requesting tech help during week one. 
• Ask the key question: Does this tool enhance learning, or does it just add a screen?

2. Establish AI & Digital Citizenship Norms Day One 

Digital citizenship isn’t a one-time lesson in October; it’s an everyday habit. With generative AI and digital tools evolving rapidly, transparency and guidance are essential: ● Co-create classroom guidelines with students regarding appropriate tool use and AI assistance. 

• Revisit basic privacy, online safety, and digital balance routines right alongside physical safety drills. 

Emphasize critical thinking: teach students how to verify online information and cite their sources correctly.

3. Design for Accessibility & Equity

• Utilize built-in accessibility features like closed captions, speech-to-text, and alt text for images. 
• Keep offline access options in mind for students who may have variable internet connectivity at home. 
• Offer choices in how students demonstrate mastery—whether through a podcast, blog post, video reflection, or slide deck. 

4. Tap Into Your Nebraska EdTech Community
