Biography
I am a non-traditional educator with undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics. During my studies, I got introduced to computer science while learning how to scrape the web for large datasets that I could then run analyses on. While in school I was a paraprofessional, and my interest in education never left. When I was 30 years old, I enrolled in the TAP program at UNO and completed an MS in Secondary Education. For six years, I taught IT Apps, Web Design, and introductory Computer Science courses at Papillion – LaVista High School. Last year, due to the passage of the Computer Science and Technology Education Act, the Nebraska Department of Education created the new position of Computer Science Education Specialist. In this role, I am proud to serve educators across Nebraska by helping with the implementation of the requirements brought about by this legislation. It has given me a unique perspective and opened my eyes to both the challenges and opportunities in computer science education and educational technology across the state. I believe NETA plays a pivotal role in the growth of these fields in Nebraska’s educational system, and I would be honored to serve on their board.
