Privacy Direct

Common Sense Education

NETA is honored to be a partner with Common Sense Education; “the nation’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century.” (https://www.commonsense.org/education/). You may be familiar with the digital citizenship and other resources NETA sends out on behalf of Common Sense Education in NETA’s monthly Newsgrams.

It is no secret that privacy and security are hot topics in ed tech.  So today I want to highlight Common Sense’s privacy direct page on their website. Right now they are offering this resource for FREE to schools and districts! Keep reading to find out more or click the link above to get started.

Common Sense’s Privacy Direct details webpage states that the Privacy Direct Tool gives schools and districts access to the privacy evaluation data of hundreds of products in a raw format to allow individual schools and districts to choose, filter, sort, and scrutinize the privacy categories and evaluation questions that matter the most to them. The Common Sense Privacy Program was created to champion student privacy and support educators, schools, and communities on a path toward a more secure digital future for all kids. Goals include:

  • To give school and district administrators the information they need to make informed choices about the learning tools they use with students.
  • To empower schools and districts to thoroughly assess technology products used in K–12 classrooms.
  • To collaborate with software developers to make sure their policies are transparent and comprehensive and created with kids’ best interests in mind.

It will offer customizable privacy data, easy integration and automatic updates, and it is evidence based. I encourage you to check it out!

Bonus!! Merve Lapus, Vice President of Outreach & Engagement for Common Sense Education, will be at the NETA 2022 conference on Thursday, April 21st as a Featured Speaker.

We hope you are able to join the fun and learn from featured speakers like Merve!
